Watling Chase Community Forest

To provide a service to local people, this site included downloadable and printable maps of the various designated walks in the Watling Chase woodlands which were very popular, together with a calender of events which was updated every month.

The organisation also had a statutory obligation to publish their Forest Plan and Maps, so to compliment their printed documents we created a CD version, and also built a supplementary website giving total access to the plans and maps.

A particular challenge with this site was to find ways of presenting a lot of information in a way that was both visually appealing and highly accessible. The site and the CD was needed to sell a project and a vision to influential bodies such as the Forestry Commission. These screen shots from within the site illustrate some of the techniques used:

Charts and narratives were used to present key statistics and concepts.

Maps were used to convey the geogrpahic implications.

Artists illustrations and engaging photographs were used to sell the vision.

The web was a hugely cost-effective way of distributing fabulous impressions of the proposals.

The target audience for the Plans were very pleased with the presentation, we were told by Watling Chase personnel that they had received many compliments about the clean good looks and fast delivery of both the CD and the website.
