Women's Institute

The National Federation of Women's Institutes was a site we managed for 8 years, from its first forays into the Internet. It was a forward-looking organisation which decided to establish a presence on the Internet. They deal in a wide range of issues and campaigns, and the challenge was finding ways to present this vast array of data within the confines of a single website. The site was re-built in time for the National Conference in 2000 and was launched by Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Further developments included an online course booking system for the WI's very popular Denman College and the addition of an online shopping facility to support WI Enterprises.

During 2003, we completely redesigned and rebuilt the site to coincide with the arrival of a new sponsor, Flora ProActiv. The new version is designed to be much more modern, an elegant design with soft pastel shades and 21st century style.

The redesigned site was designed to ensure that not only does it look great, but it looks great on a whole range of screen shapes and sizes, yet it doesn't compromise accessibility or usability. Now that more people have digital cameras and scanners, and more of its members are using the Internet, the NFWI has much more access to grass roots information and images and can present its information in a much more imaginative and attractive manner. We also launched a series of pages for each of the regional federations that make up the national organisation and provided content-management systems so that the federations and individual WIs were able to build their own pages online using easy to use tools which produced great looking pages fully integrated into the main site style.
