Privacy is under threat on a global scale. Many years ago in the UK, BT tried to team up with Phorm to collect and sell our browsing histories and was met with a considerable public backlash. In the USA, legislation has just been passed by both houses which allows the stateside Internet Service Providers to collect the complete browsing history of each customer and to use that data in any way they wish, including selling it. AT&T says customers may opt out of data collection,... but it will cost them $30 per month.

It was perhaps inevitable following the recent London attack, that politicians would display the now common knee-jerk reaction and call for less online privacy and more mass surveillance capability.
