Exports post-Brexit may be a worry, but two areas where we seem to be fulfilling our quota are the British accent, and Peppa Pig.
Many years ago, when I was just a schoolboy, I remember from time to time that someone or other in the class would watch too many cowboy movies and decide they were going to speak like John Wayne. The teachers took a very dim view of such behaviour. This month, many news outlets across the USA have been talking about how their children are growing up with British accents after watching too much Peppa Pig and, horror of horrors, calling their moms "mummy". What a terrible thing this all is, according to some discussion groups of US moms. Hashtag Peppa Effect they are calling it, as they all rush out to tweet in the same style as everyone else on the internet. This clip is from a US news programme.
The news-reader parent talking about her own daughter using the word "petrol" failed to appreciate how great an answer that was, and how mentally stimulating Peppa Pig must have been. To really appreciate that answer, you need to have seen this five minute episode.
