The summer sun is slipping away, the nights are drawing in, and the EU has begun to phase out filament light bulbs in favour of the planet-saving and significantly more expensive low-energy fluorescent bulbs. Meanwhile, cities continue to burn up kilowatts of power through the evening and the night, illuminating the outside of government buildings such as the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London, to the delight of both tourists and moths. Sometimes, the people who have bright ideas fail to see the big picture.

The WiFi solution to traffic congestion
The Scottish Labour Party has come up with another planet-saving idea to get people out of their cars and onto public transport by calling for buses and trains in Scotland to offer free WiFi to their passengers.
Does the web need a SideWiki?
Google has quietly added a new feature to its Google toolbar which it calls SideWiki and describes as a meta-comments engine. It lets you make comments about a web page, and read the comments made by others. Is this an easy to use Web 2.0 style facility that lets us all communicate more easily, or does it have a downside for website owners?
