Watch the birdie
The pictures alongside this article were taken by a marine turtle using a Nikon Coolpix L18 video camera.
Dutchman Dick de Bruin lost his camera overboard when diving in the Caribbean and thought he would never see it again. Incredibly, it was to turn up four months later, 1100 miles away in Florida, and had an adventure to tell.
Two months after it was lost overboard, the camera was picked up by a marine turtle which appears to have got itself tangled in the camera strap and, whilst it was trying to get itself free, managed to switch on the camera and take several minutes of underwater video which includes the odd passing fish along with shots of turtle flipper.
The camera was eventually found by Coastguard Paul Schultz at Key West, Miami, and amazingly, apart from being a little encrusted, still worked. After some investigation, Mr Schultz was able to reunite the camera with its owner. The video which was filmed by the inquisitive turtle is now on You Tube and has been viewed by over two million people.
