Amazon's pre-tax profits last year tripled to $11.2bn, yet it still paid no corporation tax in the US, and instead received $129m as an income tax rebate, (all quite legally I should add). This month Amazon announced that it will no longer be building a new headquarters in New York after a public backlash over the proposed $3bn rebates it would have received from the state of New York in tax incentives.

Poking the pokemon, and other realities
