One hundred years ago, in 1915, while Europe was fighting the Great War, Alexander Graham Bell made the first trans-continental phone call, from New York to his assistant Thomas Watson in San Francisco. The call was made possible by the newly invented vacuum tube amplifier, and with that the world started to become a smaller place.
